I am wife to Jeff, homeschool mom to 8, a knit and crochet teacher and totally addicted to knitting, crocheting and other fiber arts. After knitting, crocheting and sewing my own clothing from the age of 10 on, I studied textiles & clothing in college. That lead me to 25 years of custom dressmaking and alterations work, while sewing, knitting and crocheting for my growing children. I have worked in the yarn industry for the past 3 years and have been designing my own knitting patterns. Projects, projects, projects

I always have at least a dozen different projects going at one time. I guess I am easily bored. The Pelerine is one of the active projects. It is coming along very quickly which is good because it is getting chilly here now.

I put it on 2 needles for the photo. I am moving it to a longer needle as the stitches were getting very crowded. I am really looking forward to wearing it.

I have also been working on a sweater for my 4yo son. The pattern is the Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman. Oh, did I tell you that I really enjoy her patterns? This is the 3rd sweater I have made from the pattern in the past 2 months. I am going to teach a class how to make them in September. It is a really fun sweater knit all in one piece.

I asked my little guy what color he wanted the sweater to be. "Orange" was his answer. This is called carrot which is a muted orange color. I think he really wanted a brighter orange but this one is easier for me to work with and he seemed okay with it. I will have to make the sleeves longer I am sure as he is a tall boy.

On Monday I went to our Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting. I recently delivered my last shawl to a friend who was having surgery so I needed a new project. I saw this Simply Soft pattern on the Caron web site a week ago and a friend offered to send me the yarn. It arrived just in time for the meeting. It is a beautiful lacey pattern. http://www.caron.com/projects/ss/simply_shawl.html

I also am working on 2 washcloths for an exchange. These are the first 2 out of 7 that I need to get mailed by October 31. Better knit faster!

Like I said, these are some of the active projects. There are lots more waiting to be lovingly tended to and more yet that I would like to make. There are always new ideas that I need to work on for the classes that I teach at the Rose Tree Fiber Shop and things that I want to make for my family. Then there are all of the worthy charities that I would like to knit and crochet for...

Happy Knitting and Crocheting!

Pelerine

I was feeling overwhelmed yesterday with all there is to do so I took some advice from Elizabeth Zimmerman. She said, "Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either." and , "Knit on with confidence and hope, through all crisis." I started a Pelerine. It is basically a short poncho from an Elizabeth Zimmerman pattern (Spun Out #40). I wanted a simple poncho pattern to teach to a class. It is a very easy pattern. The yarn is Simply Soft Shadows, which creates wide stripes. EZ suggests some lace patterns for the stockinette version of this poncho but I decided this yarn would look best in straight stockinette. It is so soft and so nice to work with!! I really like it. I am hoping it will be for me but my 9 and 13 yo daughters have been eyeing it with that "look"!
